A to Zzz - A New Centre of Excellence in Respiratory and Sleep Medicine
A is for the millions of Australians who are affected by respiratory and sleep disorders every day.
With your support we will build a life-changing Centre of Excellence in Respiratory and Sleep Medicine, improving quality of life and health outcomes for Victorians who struggle to breathe and sleep.
The new Centre of Excellence in Respiratory and Sleep Medicine will bring together the Department of Respiratory and Sleep Medicine at Austin Health and the Institute of Breathing and Sleep (IBAS), to create a world-class centre.
"Chronic lung disease is a leading cause of death and disability in Australia, and is one of the most common reasons for emergency hospital admissions." Professor Christine McDonald

H is for How You Can Help
By becoming a philanthropic 'Partner of Excellence', your support will have a lasting impact on respiratory and sleep medicine for this generation and generations to come.
The new Centre of Excellence will accommodate best practice care, research and technologies, matching the quality of the talented staff of the Department of Respiratory and Sleep Medicine and in the Institute of Breathing and Sleep (IBAS) in a single integrated facility.
The Austin Health Department of Respiratory and Sleep Medicine’s services and IBAS are currently scattered across six locations over two campuses – the Austin Hospital and the Heidelberg Repatriation Hospital, making optimal patient care a challenge. Patients, who are already in a fragile state, need to be transported back and forth between the campuses at great inconvenience; costing time and money.
A is for Annette
Going backwards and forwards between appointments at different sleep laboratories across the hospital is a source of frustration for patients.
C is for Christopher
A Centre of Excellence... would make people's lives better. It's a no brainer for me.
J is for Jessie
Respiratory and Sleep Patient
Without the care I received from the Victorian Respiratory & Sleep Service team, I would not have been well enough to carry and give birth to my daughter safely.
C is for Collaboration and Relocation Being Crucial for Optimal Care
By combining the strengths of the Department of Respiratory and Sleep Medicine and the Institute for Breathing and Sleep, innovative health care will be delivered resulting in improved patient care, accelerated research discoveries, and transformed medical education. It will also ensure patients can easily access their healthcare services in one dedicated centre.
